Deer buck Pat Poynette Huge
Bryan Skaar of Poynette with a huge bow kill from behind his own house. Read what his brother, Pat, said after this entry. Main frame 10 point base scored 171.5, and then 25 inches of "junk" for a 197.5 gross. Weight 285 lbs and 235 cleaned. wow!!
My brother, Bryan, whacked this with his bow yesterday morning in his little 13 acre woods right behind his house in Poynette, WI. (Columbia County, about a half hour north of Madison). He had never seen this buck and rarely hunts behind his house. There was rumor of a "giant buck" being seen, but every year you hear those stories. Interestingly, his daughter, Bridget mentioned , after the fact, "Oh yeah, that’s the buck I saw run thought the yard last week."…She had no ideas what a freak this buck is.
Its main frame 10 point base scores 171.5 and then there are 25 inches of "junk", so the gross score is 197.5
The buck weighed 285 lbs, ungutted and 235 gutted.
He hit it right in the chest, kind of angling towards him. He didn’t like the angle but the buck was about to head into a thicket and out of his dreams forever so he took the shot. The arrow hit lungs and heart and broke off half way. He saw the buck run 50 yards, stumble, and crash down dead. UNBELIEVABLE !.. He hunts all over the place and ends up getting the buck of a lifetime right behind his house.
An interesting thing about that stand is both he and I have hunted out of it for many years and taken lots of deer, but the best conditions for that stand are if there is a South wind. As you know, a south wind is kind of unusual and not the typical, prevailing wind this time of year. All that said, it was perfect conditions and he arrowed this about 7:45 in the morning.
Good luck to all of you the rest of the hunting season!
Pat
