Hunting Dog Killed in Ashland County Wildlife Services confirmed that wolves killed a Plott Hound on 07/18/17.  The attack occurred in Morse Township, Ashland County.  More information and a caution-area map are available on the gray wolf webpage. 2017 Spring Waterfowl Survey Report

Wisconsin’s spring 2017 waterfowl population surveys indicate increased numbers of breeding waterfowl pairs and relatively good wetland conditions, which should result in increased waterfowl production this year across the state. The Wisconsin breeding duck population estimate of 479,099 represents an increase of twenty-three percent compared to 2016, and nine percent above the long-term (44-year) average. Of the species-specific population estimates for the three top breeding ducks in Wisconsin, (mallard, blue-winged teal and wood duck) the blue-winged teal, showed the largest increase from 2016. Sad to say, The Annual “Fire on the River” paddling/camping event has been canceled. 10 day forecasts have indicated that we might not have much for sandbars on July 1st. Even if the water level drops to half of what it is now; it will still be too high to have a safe/enjoyable outing.
