Outdoor Horizons Radio with Special Guest Steve Worrell of Outdoor First, Walleye First, and Muskie First 2-4-2012

gengberg February 4th, 2012

Today on Outdoor Horizons Radio, the guest is Steve Worrell of Outdoor First, Walleye First, and Outdoors horizons with Tony and GaryMuskie First. These are some of the best fishing and outdoor websites on the Internet. Worrell does about everything including filming, writing, promoting, and about everything else to keep these sites up and running. Tony and I interviewed Steve at the NPAA Conference last month in Minneapolis. I’m sure you’ll enjoy one of the people who make these websites what they are! Steve will be at the Milwaukee Musky Expo this weekend where Outdoor First is having the First Annual Hand Crafted Musky Lure Building World Championships. These hand crafted lures are created from some of the best craftsmen in the world. The lures have to be attractive to a musky and also to today’s discriminating musky angler. Check out the Outdoor First booth if at the Expo. The NPAA will also have a kid’s event on Sunday with free rod/reel give-a-ways and pro’s to help get the children involved.

The wave of warm weather has curtailed the ice fishing in much of south-central Wisconsin and forced the cancellation of many local fisherees and events including the Lake-Link Fishing Tournament. I would be careful on going on most ice in the southern third of the state.

The Sauk Prairie area and the Lower Wisconsin River Valley are full of bald eagles and this is a great time to come to the Prairie Du Sac Dam area to view these magnificent creatures. But, stay in your car for viewing and taking photos because you don’t want to scare them off their roosts and burn valuable calories in cold weather.

The VFW landing below the dam is open and kept in good shape for those who want to fish open water below the dam. Walleyes and saugers are both active and will be through spring. The best tactics are jigs/minnows, hair jigs, and jigs and plastic or Gulp. Work your offering very slow because the fish will not chase much in cold water.

The winner on the Miller’s Market give-a-way was Dick Brandt of Madison who won two tickets to the Milwaukee Muskie Expo. This week, call (608)-212-6464 to win this week’s give-a-way and shop at Miller’s in Verona or Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin.
