  Saturday, January 30th, was the Crystal Lake fisheree which attracted a big crowd despite the cool temperatures. The warming sun and with little wind made for a perfect January day for outdoors people. Families, budddies, brothers, sisters, grandparents..they all were out Saturday at Crystal Lake. Field reporter and Jiffy Pro Staffer, Duffy Kopf sent me some photos for you to enjoy. This is the time of the year for fisherees and if you check the Thursday edition of the Wisconsin State Journal many are listed under the “Calender” section on the left side of the paper. I also try to post as many as possible and attend a few here and there. What a great way to spend a winter day! It sure is a cure for “cabin fever.” Here is Duffy’s email.

There were over 300 people signed up at the Crystal Lake tournament today.  A fair number of fish were caught and all profit will be donated to good causes.  What a neat bunch of people.  I will send a couple of pics later.

The fishing was slow and spotty, but put 300 or 400 people on the ice in close quarters anywhere and fish will spook and be tough to catch. If I get the results, I’ll post them. Schoepp’s Cottonwood Resort does a great job and donates much to the area and lake.

Local friend and fishing professional, Wally Banfi, guided a group on Devils Lake Saturday and had a good day catching numerous trout on tip-ups, slip-floats, and by jigging. The best trout was 20″ and  they sure taste good smoked, grilled, or pan-fried. Wally can be reached at (608)-644-9823 or 393-9823. Catching trout on tip-ups in the winter, cool. Devils Lake may be driven on now. There’s still a few big northerns and some good panfish in Devils Lake too.
