SUBJECT:  Public meeting Saturday to discuss final Deer Trustee Report implementation proposals


MADISON- The public is invited to attend in person, or online, a July 20 meeting to discuss the Deer Trustee Report (DTR) Action Teams’ implementation proposals.

“Four action teams have been hard at work since Deer Food Plot1March, reviewing the DTR recommendations, discussing research materials and background data to build the framework for their implementation proposals,” said Eric Lobner, Deer Trustee Report implementation coordinator with the Department of Natural Resources. “They’ve worked very hard to incorporate multiple viewpoints while reviewing the results of the April DTR survey to pull together proposals on how the department should put the report’s 62 recommendations into action on the Krollground.”


This meeting is the first opportunity for the public to hear the summary of the proposals, and marks the end of this phase of the publicly-driven process.


The proposal report-outs will take place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at UW-Stevens Point Dreyfus University Center, 1015 Reserve Street. This portion of the meeting will also be live webcasted for those who are interested but are unable to attend in person.

There will be a question and answer session where all attendees, in-person or online, will have the option to submit questions after the presentation.

“We hope for good participation in this peer-to-peer sharing of proposals,” Lobner said. “The DNR has been the ears in this process. The public has been the voice, and the public has assembled the proposals.”

Though the report-out section of the meeting runs an hour, the entire meeting will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees are welcome to sit in with the action teams as observers and listeners prior to the report-outs, where public input and questions will be welcome.

This meeting marks the seventh time the action teams have met since March.

From here, rules will be drafted by DNR based on the action team implementation proposals. Proposed rules will be subject to public hearings this fall. The Natural Resources Board will review comments on the rule package that is developed from the implementation proposals before making a decision on rule adoption in December.
