WEST BEND – While the hunting season might be months away, planning for the 2013 deer hunting season is underway. Wildlife biologists with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources invite anyone interested in discussing the status of the deer herd in Washington and Ozaukee counties to attend a public meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, at the Washington County Public Agency Center located at 333 E. Washington Street in West Bend. Meeting room entrance and parking is on the building’s lower level, off of Indiana Ave.
Deer-Mitch1-Buck-smallDeer herd management throughout Wisconsin depends greatly on information provided by the public. This is an opportunity for hunters and other interested individuals to discuss the possible structure of the 2013 deer hunting seasons with DNR wildlife managers.
Local wildlife biologists will be on hand to answer questions and talk about the current status of the deer herd in these counties. They will listen to ideas and observations about local deer numbers, and discuss possible strategies to manage them. Deer harvest histories and other information provided by hunters through deer registration from the 2012 season are available for viewing.
Those unable to attend a local meeting may still provide their personal input on their favorite deer management unit using an on-line herd status summary and survey which will be active from March 18 to April 12. During that period, please visit: www.dnr.state.wi.us/topic/hunt/deerhunterforum.com. Comments and survey results will be compiled and provided to the wildlife biologist responsible for each county.
