Yahara Fishing Club
Ice Fishing Derby
The idea is something new and also something old. Some people still remember the YFC Percheree held way back when. It went by the wayside when you couldn’t drive your car or truck out onto the ice. It has been a long time (40 years) since there has been a big ice fishing tournament on the Madison Lakes. This year starts something new.
The Yahara Fishing Club’s Ice Fishing Derby is the brainchild of board member Jim Kloth. Sponsors have been solicited and the Green Lantern in McFarland has agreed to be the tournament headquarters. Combine the “Derby” with the good food and drink at the “Lantern” and you are in for a great day.
The Derby is Jan. 19, 2013 starting at 7:00am in the morning. Registration runs from 6:00am through 10:00am and costs $10. You get a special raffle ticket with your registration. The goal of this event is to raise money to run the YFC’s Kids Ice Fishing Day (Jan. 12) and Kids Fishing Day in June.
Door Prize tickets are $2 or 3 for $5 – you must be present to win (3:00pm). Even if you don’t ice fish you can come to have something to eat and drink and wait for your lucky ticket to be drawn. Prizes from Jiffy, AquaVu, JB Lures, HT Enterprises, Clam and the Grand Prize of a Nebulus Flotation Device ($500 value). A total of more than $2000 worth of merchandise will be given away.
Cash prizes ($75 for first and $25 for second) will be awarded for heaviest pike, walleye, bass, and 10 panfish. Heaviest single panfish for kids 12 and under will be a merchandise award.
There will be a professional style weigh in with Gary Engberg of Gary Engberg Outdoors and Outdoor Horizons Radio will be the MC. For information go to the YFC website: www.yaharafishingclub.org or contact Jim Kloth @ 608-635-0116 or email@example.com.
