This week on Outdoor Horizons Radio, Tony is back from his stay at Andy Myers Lodge
on Eagle Lake and reports excellent fishing for muskies, walleyes, and smallmouths. Take your pick, they all were available and very active! Tony will talk about the trip as the year goes on. An old friend of Tony’s, Wayne Pedder, joined us on the show and talked about the big water salmon and trout fishing on Lake Michigan. Wayne’s an excellent angler and talked about the Lake Michigan fishing and the Madison (Lake Mendota) perch bite that is still going on. The key according to Wayne is getting on the water early for both the perch and salmon. Most fish that he is catching are in water less than 100 feet deep and both spoons and flies are working for him.

The hot weather has kept many anglers off the water and if you fish be sure not to fish for or handle a muskie or northern fish in this hot weather with water temperatures 85-90 degrees. Stay away from shallow water lakes where fish have no deep water to escape to. Fishing the deep weedline and mid lake structure with leeches and crawlers works with slip floats and live bait- rigging is working too. The trout streams are holding up despite the weather since most of them are spring fed and the trout can escape the heat in under-cuts and spring holes.![]()
The Wisconsin River is low and there isn’t much current, but catfish are very active on both stink baits and cut bait. Walleyes and saugers are active at low light trolling and long lining Shad Raps on the LWR. Cool weather is needed and RAIN.
