Outdoor Horizons Radio with Guest Children’s Author, K.J. Houtman 6-30-2012

This week on Outdoor Horizons Radio, the guest is children’s author, K.J. Houtman. OH me and THoutman is the author of a collection of children’s books called “Fish on Kids Books” which do a wonderful job of introducing and helping get children involved in the outdoors through fishing, camping, and hunting. The books center around the young boy, Gus, and the adventures that he gets into with his family in the outdoors. K.J. has finished four books and I’m sure that she is writing more about Gus and his world as he goes through the year and its seasons. I highly recommend these book for grade school children and the books will help gwt more kids into the outdoors. These books would make a great gift for your children or grandchildren.

Tony and I are finally together in the studio after both being “on the road again.” Both, Tony and Gary, have been fishing so there are plenty of fishing reports this week from southern Wisconsin to the U.P. The perch have been on a “hot” bite on the Madison Chain on Lake Mendota and Governors Island. Perch PancakeHellgrimites are the key, if you can afford them, or use the Big Red garden worm on a rig with 4-6 pound test, a barrel weight, and a 15-20 inch flurocarbon leader, and a # 8 or 10 gold Tru-Turn hook. The perch are on the bottom to a foot above.

Walleyes and saugers are active on the Wisconsin River trolling crankbaits close to the bottom. The water has gone down again, so be sure that you know where you’re going. Catfish love this hot weather too! Tony and Mike Pecosky didn’t repeat as PMTT champs at the EagleRiver event last week. But, the muskie fishing is great in northern Wisconsin.

This week on the Miller’s Market give-a-way, the winner of the Nebulus Floatation Device is Mark Schram of Watertown, Wisconsin. Thanks for all of you that entered the contest and I’m sure that we’ll start another give-a-way next week.
