Message from Matt Krueger:
The Lower Wisconsin River Basin AIS Working Group meets to strategize how to prevent the introduction and spread of AIS in the Lower Wisconsin River Basin (see attached flyer for more information). All meetings are open to the public, and occur at the Kratchowill Memorial Building in Muscoda, at 206 N. Wisconsin Ave (http://goo.gl/maps/lo0F) at 6pm. The next meeting of the AIS Working Group is this Wednesday, June 27 from 6-8pm, and you are invited to attend. Please circulate this message to other interested parties.![]()
There are two objectives for Wednesday’s meeting. First, we’ll speak with several river anglers about AIS issues, and look for ways that we can work with the angling community to raise the profile of AIS and protect the waters of the Lower Wisconsin basin from AIS introduction and spread. The other objective of the meeting is to plan for our second annual AIS Action Day on Saturday, July 28. Details of the day are in development (many of which will be worked out at the meeting), but it will involve AIS monitoring of the river from paddling citizens/groups, the ever-popular “river bingo,” a river clean-up, hands-on demonstrations of actual living AIS specimens such as curly-leaf pondweed and zebra mussels, Clean Boats Clean Waters watercraft inspections at high-use landings, a “group check” of boaters by DNR conservation wardens and water guard, and will conclude with a BBQ picnic. It should be a great time, and there is ample opportunity to participate and help make this day a success. It starts with our planning Wednesday night.
Please let me know if you are interested in attending the meeting this coming Wednesday 6/27, or also if you are generally interested in helping plan for-or attending-the July 28 AIS Action Day paddle on the Lower Wisconsin River.
Thanks,
Matt Krueger
