Limits Increase on the Minnesota Side of Lake of the Woods 11-17-2011

Limits Increase on the MN Side of Lake of the WoodsSportsmans Lodge Ice Fishing Report Logo
on December 1!

Starting December 1, the limits change from 6 walleye/sauger combination in the summer to 8 in the winter. You can keep up to four walleyes. The slot remains the same, no walleyes between 19 1/2″ through 28″ can be kept. Also, in regards to trophy fish, that also remains the same. Only one walleye over 28 inches can be kept. This seasonal change continues through April 15 on most areas of the MN side of Lake of the Woods, excluding Four Mile Bay which the increase limit ends February 29 and a few other areas not in our normal fishing area. We are experiencing a very healthy 12″-14″ size sauger population this year as well as a nice walleye population, so we anticipate it to be an active fishing season ahead!Sportsmans Snocat

It was 11 degrees this morning and we received a blanket of snow a few days ago. It is beginning to look like winter! It won’t be long before the ice fishing season will be here. At this point we are looking at December 10 to start our season. We just need a ten day stretch of zero degrees and light winds, then we will have 12 inches of ice to start fishing. We usually start our season on the lake right outside of Pine Island. First ice is usually one of the best times of year!

Be sure to ask about out our beautiful new 5 bedroom, 4 baths Villa available starting early December. Pictures are coming soon to our website but you can view the building progress pictures on facebook now.
