BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Open Presented by Pepsi Gets Underway

Paris, Tennessee - June 27, 2011 - 173 collegiate anglers representing almost 40 schools from across the nation have arrived in Paris, Tennessee to contest the 2011 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Open presented by Pepsi.

This unique event features a true team format that allows teammates to share information and work together to amass the largest amount of weight possible over two days of competition. The winning team will be determined by the combined weight of each team’s top two boats each day.College sponsors 2011

The dedicated student anglers began the official practice period today; hoping to identify the locations and techniques that will produce the hefty Kentucky Lake bass needed to claim the title. Competition will get underway when the anglers are released from Paris Landing Marina at safe light on the 29th.

“Winning the inaugural BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Open presented by Pepsi last year was a great honor,” said Tyler Moberly of Eastern Kentucky University. “The lake was on fire, and it was by far the most fun my partner, Kyle Raymer and I have had on the water. The EKU fishing team is currently ranked number one in the nation and we can’t wait to fish the Open again this year to try to add another victory to our resume to keep it that way.Versus Logo

Moberly continued saying, “Anyone keeping up with the recent tournaments on Kentucky and Barkley Lakes, noticed that the weights were way down from what they should be this time of year. The flooding on the lakes has caused the normal styles of fishing to be a little out of whack right now. Four of the top five anglers in that tournament were actually catching their fish shallow. By the time the Open starts hopefully all of that will change, and the famous Kentucky Lake ledge bite will be in full swing. Anglers shouldn’t have a problem catching 50-100 fish a day, but the key to taking home the title will be finding the schools of bigger fish. Big worms, jigs, and crankbaits are always a favorite when the ledge bite is on. This will be another amazing tournament and we can’t wait to get on the water.”

Daily weigh-ins will be held at Paris Landing beginning at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 29 and Thursday, June 30. Collegiate fishing fans, family members and friends of competitors can follow the action by visiting
