Fishing Report From Clements Fishing Barge on the Mississippi River 5-30-2011

Let’s not forget Kids Day this coming Sunday! Free fishing day for kids on the barge, parents are only $6. There will be food, drinks (provided by the Genoa Lions), bait and tackle (provided by Captain Hook’s Bait Shop and Gollon Bait) and a fishing contest with prizes for everyone to boot! It will start at 8 in the morning or when you get there until 2 in the afternoon. Bring a kid fishing…Clements Sturgeon Kid SmallHey, its been awhile since I gave a fishing report. I apoligize for that. I have been trying to stay out of the office so much. The river has finally settled down again and should start to drop. The water has been just perfect for fishing, though I would like to see it drop about a foot or two. So many fish being caught. You should have seen the big walleye coming in this last weekend. No, not enough to put on a stringer (too big anyway), but there were some that really made it more interesting. Several in the 8 to 9 pound range, more in the 6 to 7 pound range. It has just been a crazy year and I think its been a late one. With this higher water, I think we are going to have some fantastic fishing in June.Clements WhiteBass small Just like last fall when the water was higher, the fish seem to stick around the barge a little better. We have caught tons and tons of sturgeon, this is the most I have ever seen being caught. Bluegills, a few perch, rock bass, largemouth bass, small sauger, huge carp and huge rock sturgeon coming in. Of course, there are enough sheephead around to really keep you on your toes and your arm on ice later…
