Walleye Egg Collection to Begin in April
LINCOLN, Neb. - Walleye eggs will be collected at three Nebraska reservoirs, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Egg collection is necessary because nearly 71 million eggs are needed to satisfy the 2011 stocking requests.Game and Parks will collect eggs at Merritt Reservoir, Sherman Reservoir and Lake McConaughy. Netting will begin on the night of April 4 and continue until a quota has been met. Gill netting along the dam at night will capture females and an electroshocking boat will collect the males.
Spawning operations will take place on the lake during the morning and the fertilized eggs will be transferred to various hatcheries for hatching.
It should take 5-10 days for the necessary eggs to be collected.
