Big Green Lake Fishing and Ice Update 1-28-2011
gengberg January 28th, 2011
BIG GREEN LAKE UPDATE; Is the ice on Big Green is slowly getting thicker. It is 6 to 10 inches in most places from the east end to Sandstone Pt. Over the real deep water past Sandstone there may be alot thinner ice under the snow. I not been and would not go in that area yet.
There also still can be some thin ice under snow banks that have not froze from Sandstone Pt. back to the east end. You still have to be real carefull out there. Walking out is the safest. ATVs & snowmobile travel is possible if you no the conditions of the ice where you are going. DEFINITELY NO FULL SIZE VEHICLES ON THE ICE****FISHING REPORT; The LAKE TROUT bite has been very good from the east end to Horner’s Landing and also off the north side of Sandstone Pt. Jig & minnows have been good fished close to bottom in water from 75 to 130 feet. Bite is on and off all day with the am being the best.
****Northern; Are biting in the shallow water off the east and west ends of the lake. Tipups fished with minnows best.
****Cisco; Bite has been real good off the north side of Sandstone Pt. areas. Small jigs fished in the schools in the early am best
Whitebass; Are slow but will bite at times off the southeast end of the lake. Best in the early am and then in the pm. Jigs fished in the schools best.
Walleye; There have been reports of a few walleye being taken. Best in the late pm and after dark. Minnow s fished off tipups in 8 to 20 feet of water best
****Panfish; Have been slow in the bays and backwaters.![]()
