Current Ice Conditions
It’s winter now! The past few days we have gotten 4-6 inches of snow and it sure is looking like winter around here. The weather has been below freezing and it looks like the forecast is calling for single digits and teens throughout the next 3-4 days. These will all be good ice making days.
As of right now most of the bays and inlets have a sheet of 1-2 inches of ice including Four Mile Bay. The Rainy River from Wheeler’s Point to Baudette is 90% froze over with a sheet of 1-2 inches of ice. The Lake just outside of Pine Island has about 400 yards of ice, we are hoping to see more ice forming this week although it sounds like we maybe in for a few windy days that might delay it from icing over. We will be checking satellite photos later this week and post again Friday or Saturday with an update. Check out the pictures below from today. The picture is of Four Mile Bay compeletly iced over now. ![]()
At this point we are still looking at Dec 4 as a start date for ice fishing. Once we get a sheet of ice on the lake and cool temperatures we can start to make up to 1-2 inches of ice a day. We always keep safety in mind first and will not start until we have 10-12 inches, but at this point that is still very possible by Dec 4. Give us a call to make your winter reservations 800-862-8602 we have available dates open Dec through March. For those of you that plan to venture out on your own in the up and coming few weeks, keep on the marked plowed roads or marked groomed trails. This blanket of snow will hide those unsafe areas and remember the river always takes longer to get a good ice base due to the current.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

The bay in front of the lodge has a mix of ice and water right now as well as much of the islands and Northwest Angle. I saw a couple of otters and ducks in the bay this morning. It sounds like we are in for some cool temperatures in the single digits and teens this week. We are starting to see the ice making really begin. We are looking to start ice fishing mid December. Give us a call to book your winter trip, 800-772-8411.
Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving everyone!
