New Berlin, Wisconsin - Sportsman Channel’s national “Hunt.Fish.Feed.” tour made stops in Florida last week, hitting Orlando on Wednesday, Sept. 22, and Tampa on Friday, Sept. 24, to host meals at downtown shelters that fed more than 750 citizens in need. The national Hunt.Fish.Feed.SM tour is a unique outreach program that taps an underutilized food source-game meat and fish donated by sportsmen-to feed those struggling with hunger across America. The Orlando and Tampa events utilized more than 200lbs of venison (deer meat) to make tasty and nutritious venison sloppy joes and tacos in Orlando and venison chili in Tampa.
For more information on Hunt.Fish.Feed.SM, including an informational video, visit www.huntfishfeed.org.Sportsman Channel’s Haley Heath, host of Family Traditions, is the official ambassador for the Hunt.Fish.Feed. initiative and was on-site to help serve and host. As the program’s official spokesperson, she helps educate the public about the importance of harvesting game for use in programs like Hunt.Fish.Feed., something Haley has practiced throughout her life.
“I am so happy to be here today and do a small part in helping the Tampa community with our Hunt.Fish.Feed. program,” said Heath. “I am honored to serve as ambassador to such a unique and needed program, one that provides thousands of people with nutrient-rich food, something that shouldn’t be wasted. As a life-long responsible hunter, I’m deeply committed to harvesting game for the common good. We look forward to continue to grow and expand the program to help even more people in need all across America.”
Numerous special guests were on-site to help serve the meals, including: Richard Crotty, Mayor of Orange County; Rep. Geraldine Thompson; Senator Carey Baker; Senator Ronda Storms (and her two children); Rep. Janet Cruz; Robert Arrington of Respect Outdoors; and Curt Maggitt, a top-rated high school football recruit from West Palm Beach.
“It’s great to be here today to help our citizens in need with such a unique and worthwhile program. It’s this type of program that shows the positive contributions that can be made to our people and our community,” said Storms. “We are extremely grateful for Sportsman Channel to host this event for the Tampa community.”
“Hunt.Fish.Feed” began its 2010 tour in Las Vegas on Jan. 19, where both the Nevada Governor and Las Vegas Mayor praised the program as “most unique and creative, especially during an economic climate where more are in need while financial and food donations are down.” Mayors in Las Vegas, Milwaukee, Houston and Orlando have declared “Hunt.Fish.Feed” Days in their cities.
