For Immediate Release
The Wisconsin Hunters Rights Coalition (HRC) would like to publically thank the five bi-partisan members of the WI Congressional Delegation who last week filed an official request with Ken Salazar, Secretary of the US Department of Interior in Washington DC to delist the Gray Wolf.
The five Congressmen are: Steve Kagan D-8th District, Ron Kind D-3rd District, Tom Petri R-6th District, Paul Ryan R-1st District, and F. James Sensenbrenner R-5th District. To view the offical request click here.
“We are pleased to see such a quick and rapid response from our congressional delegation on this key issue. We appluad the Congressmen for keeping a keen eye on this issue” said Dean Hamilton, President of the WI State Chapter of the NWTF.
The request asks the US Department of Interior to remove the Gray Wolf from the endangered species list as it has fully recovered in Wisconsin. Further they asked the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources be granted authority to manage the Gray Wolf in Wisconsin.
Carl Schoettel the Vice President of the WI Bear Hunters Association noted “The Gray Wolf has fully recovered in Wisconsin and it’s time we allow the experts within the Department of Natural Resources to manage the population according to their Wolf Management Plan.”
The Gray Wolf was delisted briefly in March 2007. It was placed back on the endangered species list in September 2008 because of lawsuits brought forward by radical animal rights groups like the Humane Society of the United States and others.
“Recently a delegation of SCI members from Wisconsin traveled to Washington DC to meet with Congressmen. We are extremely grateful for the timely action taken by these fine Representatives of our state” said Greg Kazmierski, Chair of the Dairlyland Committee of the Safari Club International Chapters of Wisconsin.
The Hunters Rights Coalition is the only state wide group exclusively representing hunting and shooting enthusiasts.
