JOIN the National Professional Angler Association (NPAA)

Anglers, guides, and charter captains: Read this information about the NPAA. This is a great group which works hard to promote the sport of fishing for all ages and skill levels. Besides helping the sport that we love, you can save money on insurance (the guide and tournament rates are as good or better than anything that you can find), products, get your own personal web page, and have access to some great areas to network with other anglers. The $110.00 dues is well worth the money! Please read this and contact me if you have any questions.

National Professional Anglers Association  About the National Professional Anglers Association
The National Professional Anglers Association (NPAA) is a non-profit organization of professional anglers that promotes and educates its members. It also provides a valuable platform for anglers to become involved in the issues regarding the sport of competitive angling and the fishing industry in general.
The NPAA has two main goals:
1. To increase the professionalism of our members
2. To grow the sport of fishing and the industry as a whole

The NPAA membership consists of some of the top professionals in the sport of competitive angling, anglers who compete in events at all levels, and a large number of professional guides. One of the biggest advantages for our members is the ability to network with other members. The NPAA provides a forum for interaction between professional anglers. The primary reason an angler should join the NPAA is a belief in the two main goals.
The direction of the NPAA is initiated by our committees. Members bring new ideas and recommendations to the organization through the committees which include: Membership, Internet, Youth, Insurance & Legal, Tournament Liaison, Supporting Partner and Ethics. The future projects and goals of the NPAA are in the hands of our members.
1. The Annual Conference
Make plans to attend the Annual Conference every year, the first weekend after New Year’s. Seminars are held to help develop marketing and promotional skills. Learn how to build sponsor relationships, how to act in an ethical and professional manner and how to succeed as a professional angler. At the meeting you can network with top-level anglers, meet our Supporting Partners, and get to know your fellow members even better. Seminars of this caliber are priceless.
2. Your NPAA Web Page
This is an excellent promotional tool which can be used when sending out inquiries to new companies, quarterly reports to sponsors or resumes to potential sponsors. When you keep your bio page updated with your contact information and photo, a sponsor is just a click away from finding out what makes you different from the hundreds of other anglers who approach them for sponsorship. Paying for a web page on your own can cost you hundreds of dollars a year, but more importantly directing your potential sponsor to the NPAA web page shows that sponsor you have made a commitment to the industry and the sport.
3. Youth Events
The NPAA is working hard to hook kids on fishing. By organizing and participating in the events, you will help grow the sport of fishing and the industry. Share your passion to be on the water with a child and spark the flame in a lifetime angler. The NPAA currently conducts numerous youth events each year and there are plans to grow that number in the future as interest and financial support grows.
4. Insurance/Legal
Did you know that most insurance companies have clauses in their boat insurance policies that don’t cover tournament angling or guiding? Make sure you are covered by checking out the policies that have been created for our members. These are true “Professional Angler” policies that cover both tournament anglers and guides at rates that among the best to be found.
Whether we as anglers like it or not, our state legislation can affect the quality of our on the water experiences. The NPAA is promoting State Watch Dogs to alert our members of legislation within their state which may affect fishing regulation, tournament fishing, and guiding. By having watch dogs, the NPAA is keeping its eyes on lawsuits and litigation that might affect our sport.
5. Tournament Liaison
The NPAA wants professional tournament fishing to be mutually beneficial to the anglers and the organizations. As a group, NPAA members have a stronger voice and more credibility to affect positive change for everyone.
6. Added Benefits
As an NPAA member you will have access to member discount programs offered by our Supporting Partners. These programs offer substantial discounts on the equipment and gear we all need to be successful anglers. Check these out on the web. They are available from March 1-December 31 each year.

The NPAA is a non-profit organization dedicated to two goals. Its first goal is to grow the sport of fishing and the second, is to increase the professionalism of our members. The NPAA is an all species organization comprised of mainly tournament anglers and professional guides.
To accomplish our stated goals, the NPAA has formed several member committees to investigate potential growth avenues. These include Youth, Tournament Liaison, Internet, Insurance/Legal and Membership committees. In order for our organization to succeed, member participation and involvement is critical. Future plans and programs are decided (and implemented) by these committees under the direction of our Board of Directors. As the sport of competitive angling grows, many anglers have the goal of becoming a “pro”. “Pro” might refer to a professional tournament angler or an angler involved with promotions or a full time guide. Each requires anglers to make their identity known to the public and to interact with consumers in a professional and knowledgeable fashion. The NPAA through its numbering system, through industry promotions, through annual workshops and through member networking, can help anglers accomplish their “pro” aspirations.

As a side benefit the NPAA can also use the organization’s strength in our numbers to provide member benefits. Insurance plans, product programs, and retailer discounts are some of the advantages all NPAA members enjoy. As our membership numbers grow, we will continue to pursue new programs to benefit members.
NPAA Insurances
Many tournament anglers and guides mistakenly believe they have liability and loss protection through their homeowner’s policy. Unfortunately, most homeowners policies or riders to homeowners policies do not provide coverage if the activity (risk) is considered to be for financial gain (business purposes). Only a true commercial policy that lists fishing tournaments, guiding and other promotional activities can provide real protection for those involved in these activities.
NPAA members will be offered true commercial liability and hull protection insurance for boating activities. The NPAA insurance program will have an extremely competitive group rate or an NPAA discount on individual policies.

Members Only Program
As a member of the NPAA, you will have the opportunity to take advantage of manufacturer introductory offers, product discounts, field testing programs, and other promotional offers from NPAA Supporting Sponsors. Members can also receive special discounts from Supporting Member retailers.
Member Communications

Our web site, www.npaa.net, keeps you updated on industry happenings. Timely news bulletins and member accomplishments are posted frequently to keep you up to date on important concerns, including legislative issues affecting sport fishing and competitive angling.
Official Numbers

As a Registered Pro Member, you will be assigned a personally licensed number to display on your boat. Registered Pro Membership is limited to 900 anglers, with numbers ranging from 100 through 999.
Once assigned, the number remains with the member as long as he/she chooses to maintain his annual membership. Additional decals can be ordered for your tow vehicles. Plus you can use your licensed number for clothing, etc., further building your identity as a tournament angler or professional guide.
Continuing Education
By further educating anglers about various aspects of promotion and sponsorship, members become better promoters for their sponsors and the sport of fishing.
Educational programs are held during the annual fall conference providing media training, sponsorship clinics and other topics to enhance member’s promotional skills. These workshops and clinics have proven invaluable for members as they learn the business of fishing.
Additionally, members are encouraged to “network” with other NPAA members and learn from their experiences. The ability to interact and communicate with some of the top professional anglers in the sport is a huge benefit - especially for up and coming pros.
It’s Your Organization
