Northern California’s City of Healdsburg is recognizing the increasingly scarce wild Steelhead trout on February 5, 6 and 7 with its 3rd annual Wild Steelhead Festival.

Friday, February 5
Festival activities get underway Friday, February 5, with the Steelhead Gala Dinner at the award-winning Hotel Healdsburg, with a three-course seasonal meal prepared by Chef Charlie Palmer’s Dry Creek Kitchen. Alaska Steelhead will be served, and wines from the following wineries will be featured: Steelhead Wines, Quivira Vineyards and Winery, Truett-Hurst Vineyards, and Michel-Schlumberger Winery. The guest speaker for the evening will be Jim Lichatowich, author of Salmon Without Rivers: A History of the Pacific Salmon Crisis.

Saturday, February 6
On Saturday, February 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be free activities in Healdsburg Plaza. Visitors can enjoy educational exhibits, a free trout pond for the young anglers, a fly fishing demonstration pond with tips from the pros, displays of fishing gear and boats, art for kids, cooking demos by John Ash and other local chefs, and a live Steelhead display. Also featured will be music from the Rose Town Ramblers; wine tasting from Quivira Vineyards and Winery, Steelhead Wines, Truett-Hurst Vineyards, Merriam Vineyards, and Simi Winery; and foods from Chef Mateo Granados, Dry Creek Kitchen, Costeaux French Bakery and Vintage Valley Catering.

Sunday, February 7
On Sunday, February 7, the Festival will include fish-themed cooking classes at the acclaimed Relish Culinary Center in Healdsburg. Or book a fishing trip to those “secret spots” with experienced guides.

Special overnight gala festival packages will be available from Hotel Healdsburg. Package pricing includes an overnight stay in a deluxe guest room and two tickets to the Friday night gala dinner and wine tasting tickets for the festival. Package pricing is $465. Additional nights may be added at preferred pricing and guided fishing tours may be arranged by the concierge, weather permitting. Contact Hotel Healdsburg for more information at (800) 889-7188.

Proceeds from the Wild Steelhead Festival, which is sponsored by Trout Unlimited, Hotel Healdsburg, h2hotel and Russian Riverkeeper, go toward funding public education and conservation programs related to Steelhead trout.
