Wiscconsin Enters Legal Battle to Force Action to Stop Asian Carp From Reaching the Great Lakes 12-30-09

I wanted to make sure you all received this press release from Wisconsin’s Attorney General about the state joining the court fight.

The DNR supports this action. DNR Fisheries Director Mike Staggs worked closely with the AG on this. He is in his office for a while yet today. (608) 267-0796.

The artificial connection between the Mississippi and Great Lakes basin not only poses the threat of letting Asian carp into the Great Lakes, but provides a pathway for invasive species from the Great Lakes to reach the Mississippi River basin. Mike Staggs has said the zebra mussel and round gobies are examples of invaders who have followed that pathway.
