The DNR supports this action. DNR Fisheries Director Mike Staggs worked closely with the AG on this. He is in his office for a while yet today. (608) 267-0796.
We have updated our Asian Carp control pages with the release and response document, as well as documents from Michigan. http://dnr.wi.gov/news/mediakits/mk_carpcontrol.asp
The artificial connection between the Mississippi and Great Lakes basin not only poses the threat of letting Asian carp into the Great Lakes, but provides a pathway for invasive species from the Great Lakes to reach the Mississippi River basin. Mike Staggs has said the zebra mussel and round gobies are examples of invaders who have followed that pathway.
Have a safe and happy New Year! I look forward to working with you next year.
