LAND TRUST SEEKS ADDITION TO PUBLIC LAND IN DANE COUNTY

Mazomanie - The Natural Heritage Land Trust has applied for a 50 percent matching grant from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program to assist with the purchase of 40 acres of land in the Town of Mazomanie in Dane County.

The Natural Heritage Land Trust will provide the match for the grant award. After acquisition, title to the property will be transferred to the state Department of Natural Resources.

The property, adjacent to both DNR and Dane County public land, will be an addition to the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway. It will be open to the public for low impact recreational activities including hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, cross-county skiing, snowshoeing, birding and nature appreciation.

The DNR has made a preliminary determination that the proposed acquisition will not involve significant adverse environmental impacts and that neither an environmental assessment nor environmental impact statement will be required for this action.

Public comments on the proposed acquisition can be addressed to Vance Rayburn, Administrator, Customer and Employee Services Division, care of Stefanie Brouwer, NCO Grant Manager, South-Central Region, 608-275-3218, or Stefanie.Brouwer@Wisconsin.gov. The deadline for comments is Dec. 21, 2009.
