Iowa Beast 11-7-09
gengberg November 9th, 2009
I drove to Iowa in the AM today. Wisconsin small stream season is closed and I had the itch to trout fish.
I had fished this Put And Take stream many times before and only caught stocker bows and ever so often a small skinny brown. The water was gin clear and I had just caught 2 small brooder bows. I ran my panther martin size 9 along the edges of![]()
some big boulders in relatively shallow water. I watched the trout Freight Train my spinner and turn to go back under the boulder.
As it turned I immediately saw blood in the water. I had gill hooked the trout. It was a short battle and I tried to revive the
monster for a long time. Some of them just don’t make it. It is the first “big” trout I have kept in almost 8 years.
Going to research some taxidermists and take to a good one to do it. Good taxidermists can skin the trout at his office and
give you the trout to take home to grill so it is not just a wall ornament.
