I almost forgot to write to you this week, as my life recently has a habit of throwing interesting challenges at me!
I’ve spent the best part of two days sorting out a problem with my computer (bet you’ve had that too at some point, right?) - and it’s eaten up loads of my time!
Never mind - here’s what I’ve got for you this week.

Plan A Family Fishing Trip by Dale Mazurek
Ok, it’s time to plan a family fishing trip. There are a few things you need to do with your planning in order to make the trip fun and successful. One of the most important questions that needs to be answered is when should you take your trip. Once that is determined then you need to figure out things like meal planning, lodging, traveling and how long you plan on staying.
I do love fishing with my friends. However given the choice I would choose to plan a family fishing trip any day of the week. This way the focus is not entirely on catching fish. A lot more time can be spent just having a good time if the fish happen to not be biting. It’s also nice because as a family you can all sit down and plan the trip. Everyone can put their ideas on the table and then decide from there. This is also a great time to delegate some of the duties to other family members. The sorts of questions that should be answered are. What types of fish do we want to catch? Do we want to fish in a river or lake? Will we be using a boat of fishing off shore? The nice thing about getting everyone involved is that once the decisions are made there should be no hard feelings.
Now when I plan my family fishing trip I find it very important to divvy up the duties that need to be taken care of. You might need to borrow a trailer, book a camp site, hotel or lodge. It’s important to plan a menu for the time you will be gone. Also you need to make sure your equipment and tackle is in good shape. If these duties are all given to others that makes a feeling of accomplishment for all involved. This way we know that everyone is working towards a common goal.
Ok, most people tend to not want to stay in hotels when on a fishing trip. Never the less the decision still has to be made. So whether it’s going to be a hotel, cabin or trailer there still has to be arrangements made. My first choice would be a cabin by the lake. The cabins are usually very well set up, quaint and cozy. Plus they are usually very close to where you want to go fishing. You do have to remember that if you choose a cabin you usually have to book them well in advance because so many other people love the idea of using them as well.
Okay now you have to do some thinking. Kind of draw up a bit of a plan. You need to envision how long you will be gone for and make sure you pack enough food and clothing. Plan your meals ahead of time. This way you can make sure you have enough of everything. I always lean towards taking a little extra as well.
When you plan a family fishing trip you definitely want everyone to have a great time so I seriously suggest you do some serious planning. Try to make it so that you don’t run into any surprises or road blocks. Just as fast as you are having fun it’s very easy to spoil a family fishing trip with bad planning.
Remember a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work.
