Leech Lake Muskies Stocked in Lake Monona 10-28-09

gengberg October 31st, 2009

Last Wednesday, October 28, 2009 500 Leech Lake strain muskies were stocked in Madison’s Lake Monona. The Wisconsin DNR, Capital City Chapter of muskies Inc., and other organizations contributed to the purchase of these fish as part of a comparison study with the Wisconsin Chippewa strain of fish. The muskies are PIT tagged (passive integrated transponders for future information gathering.)Gary Leech Stoccking small

The muskies, which are from 12 to 15 inches cost $1.00/inch. There are reports of 35 inch fish from the first stockings 5 years ago. Now, only time will tell which strain of muskies is better for the Madison Chain of Lakes.

Go to Pictures on the Homepage for a collection of photos that I took at the release this past week. Then, look under Leech Lake stocking.
