SUBJECT: Sec. Frank Statement on National Hunting and Fishing Day

MADISON - Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Secretary Matt Frank today issued the following statement celebrating the 27th annual National Hunting and Fishing Day, which falls on Saturday, September 26 this year. Matt Frank SmallEstablished by Congress in 1972 and designated as the fourth Saturday in September, the day is meant to recognize the contributions of sportsmen and sports women as well as promote outdoor sports and conservation.
“Hunting, fishing and trapping are strong traditions in Wisconsin and to millions of Wisconsin citizens the focus point of quality time with family and friends. Each year in Wisconsin more than 600,000 hunters and 1.4 million anglers enjoy our world class natural resources. These traditions are a rich part of our heritage, providing uncounted hours of enjoyment for people from all walks of life.
“As far back as the early part of the past century hunters, anglers and trappers have played an instrumental role in successful conservation programs ensuring Wisconsin’s wealth of natural resources will be available to future generations. Today’s hunters and anglers continue to support wise management with their involvement in both policy development and on-the-ground work.
“On National Hunting and Fishing Day, I encourage today’s hunters, anglers and trappers to pass our traditions on to future generations.”
