Great Lakes Fishing Report by Captain Andy Carraro 8-27-09

Another week end and another cold front to slow fishing off Kenosha. This week end looks to be no better. Salmon are just like any fish you find in the smaller lakes. They react to weather just as a bass or walleye.Salmon Small Andy

Fishing was good last Saturday morning. The northwest winds which have kept the near shore waters cool all summer continued to do their job. On shore water temperatures remained in the high 40’s to low 50’s. King Salmon and Brown Trout continued to take smaller Stinger spoons fished at or near the bottom in 15 to 40 feet of water. We took our largest fish of the year, a 25 pound class King Salmon which was double teamed by Jim Fenhouse and Mat Meka from Milwaukee. The fish took an “Oz” spoon on a 5 color lead.

Then the wind shifted to the northeast. Three to four foot waves quickly followed
. By the time we headed in, not only was it rough but with the 48 degree water, it became cold. (This is still August?) Rough weather continued into Sunday leaving most of us at the dock.

With the bad weather and east winds this week, look for onshore water temperatures to rise. Fish should move back out to the deeper water, where they should be. Let’s hope Mother Nature cooperates a little more this week end.
