Doc’s Tournament schedule
AIM Pro Walleye Series Winnibigoshish September
AIM Pro Walleye Series Akaska review
Another loss, I missed the cut by .04 ounces. The fish were easy to catch but the 19+ inchers were difficult. I decided not to run to the larger fish because 60 miles in a wind is too much for me and the wind didn’t blow (very unusual in SD).
Doc’s Tournament Crankbait Contest
I fished with bottom bouncers and nightcrawlers during the tournament. In pre-fishing I caught walleyes trolling crankbaits but the live bait fishing seemed better. The Salmo Bullhead 8SDR was the winner in the bull head color. Last year white was the best color by far and it sucked big time this year. Of course I had special white Salmo lures painted in Poland and a bunch of Reef Runners and Bombers painted by Downriver Tackle for the tournament. This time preparation failed. There was no clear second place winner as many lures caught fish but the big Bullhead really worked well.
Photo Contest
Check this out if you take outdoor photos, I have donated some DVDs as prizes. I will be a “Big Shot” judge once in awhile.
“On behalf of the hardworking crew at Outdoor Passions, LLC, we would like to respectfully introduce the launching of a project we are all very excited about called “outdoorcontests.com”. . The site will focus on hunting and fishing photo, video and competitive contests. It’s free to enter and participate in and will be simple to use.
We have received overwhelming support from everyone we have discussed this with. We have awesome sponsors who are excited to be a part of it. Sponsors are donating sweet product (in a tough economy nonetheless) to be given away in the contests. Photo and video contests will be vote based, so even if you don’t enter, please check out the site and vote periodically for your favorite entries! We have big-named celebrity judges who will pick winners from the top 10 vote-getters. We will also offer a variety of other resources beneficial to sportspeople in the near future.
We donate to conservation organizations. We encourage youth participation. We promote the outdoors. We graciously thank you for any interest and participation in advance! If you’re motivated, make www.outdoorcontests.com com your homepage and use the Google search engine on our site for your daily searchings…that way you can be a part of a good cause as proceeds help conservation efforts! We hope to see YOU on the web and better yet, hope to mail you some prizes in the near futureJ”
New Product Review
LakeMaster Dakota Chip and Navionics Platinum chip
Each of these map chips was useful. The LakeMaster chip was the best for fishing since they have government LIDAR data. This data was collected with laser from a low flying airplane when Oahe was about 30 feet low. I have had this data for 2 years on my computer and I was waiting for the water to rise. The water rose this year and of course LakeMaster puts in on a chip for everyone! The entire shoreline of Oahe is on the map. I fished it and it is the highest quality one foot contour map I have used. This is because the LIDAR data is higher quality than mapping with sonar and a boat.
My Navionics Platinum displayed in my HDS and the contours are good for deep water since they surveyed the lake during low water. But they added aerial photos from low water which was taken when the water was lower than when the LIDAR data was taken. The vessel cursor would be on land and the sonar would show 35 foot.
The below screenshot is the same point as above and displayed on my boat computer and the boat cursor would overlay this map just like it does any GPS. This is the data I used before the LakeMaster chip was available. It is much easier to see on a HDS than the boat computer. The LakeMaster Dakota chip was great for trolling a certain depth and staying on that depth. It used to be very difficult and now it is easy for everyone.
