August 3 Community Forum in Green Bay:
A new era of federal funding for Great Lakes clean-up and restoration creates environmental and economic opportunities

On Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, Sierra Club, Clean Wisconsin, Sea Grant and New North will host Clean Lakes and Green Jobs, at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay University Union, in Phoenix Room C, 2420 Nicolet Drive, in Green Bay. 920-465-2400, www.uwgb.edu/union/events/ep_directions.asp
This free community forum will run from 9 a.m. to noon. A tour (12 to 1:30 p.m.) of the dewatering site for treating contaminated sediments on the lower Fox River in Green Bay will follow
Congress is poised to authorize up to $475 million in the federal FY 2010 budget for long-awaited Great Lakes clean-up and restoration projects, and EPA recently issued an extensive list of proposed projects for these funds under its Great Lakes Initiative ((click for information).The agency is actively seeking input on large-scale projects for 2011.
Public officials and local experts will discuss how new federal funding can address needs for Great Lakes restoration projects in northeastern Wisconsin while providing opportunities for green jobs. Panelists will discuss state and local priorities, and provide an overview of the process through which federal funds will reach local projects.
Featured keynote speaker is Congressman Steve Kagen, MD, of Wisconsin’s 8th district. Some other speakers include:

* Steve Galarneau, Office of the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan Program Coordinator
* Paul Linzmeyer, of ISO International, New North and Sustainable Greater Green Bay

Tour space is limited and registration requested.
There will be opportunities for questions following presentations, and informally at the conclusion of the event and during the site tour.
