MINI-PLANER FILLS TROLLING NICHE
The concept of the in-line planer board is a trolling success story. In-line boards are inexpensive and an easy way to troll a wide variety of lures and other hardware out away from the boat. Targeting lures out away from the boat helps anglers catch more and bigger fish by covering more water and presenting lures to unsuspecting fish.
These unique products are easy to use and simply marry up one rod to one planer board. All the angler needs to do is set his lure the desired distance behind the boat, then attach the in-line board onto the fishing line. Once the board is attached to the line, the board is placed in the water and more line played off the reel until the board reaches the desired distance away from the boat. There are several ways to attach each board and instructions for the basic methods are included in the packaging.
Not only do in-line planers help anglers cover more water, when a fish bites they become a strike indicator. The struggling fish pulls the board backwards in the water, tipping off the angler to reel in the board, remove it from the line and continue fighting the fish.
In-line boards are also versatile. It’s easy to rig these boards so when a fish is hooked, the board can be set to trip from line release and allowed to slide down the line to the lure. This rigging method allows multiple boards to be positioned on each side of the boat without having to clear lines to fight a fish.
The new Off Shore Tackle Company LLC OR34 Mini-Planer Board functions the same way as the popular OR12 Side-Planer. The biggest difference is that this new and smaller in-line board fills a whole new fishing niche. Designed for lighter tackle, it is effective for Crappie and inland fish as well as the big Stripers and Walleye.
• The smaller size of the Mini-Planer allows these boards to be fished with almost any rod, reel and line combination.
• The smaller size also translates into less drag and resistance when setting lines and fighting fish.
• Mini-Planers are reversible. By simply switching the direction of the tow arm from one side of the board to the reverse, the Mini-Planer can be rigged to fish out the starboard or port sides of the boat. ONE BOARD…..DUAL PURPOSE!
• Mini-Planers are small enough to fit into a shirt pocket. Several can be easily stored in a tackle box making them ideal for fly-in fishing trips or fishing from rental boats and guided trips.
• Mini-Planers can be rigged to stay on the line or rigged to release and slide down the line just like their cousin the OR12 Side-Planer.
• Mini-Planers are ideal for fishing from shore in rivers. The board reaches out to waters that can’t be easily waded.
Best of all, the Mini-Planer is less expensive and will handle most of the trolling chores currently reserved for larger in-line boards.
The new Mini-Planer by Off Shore Tackle is packaged one board per poly bag along with instructions, an OR 10 release for the tow arm, a nylon nut, 6/32 x ½” screw, split ring and a snap swivel. Like the tried and true OR12 Side-Planer the new Mini-Planer can be used to target a wealth of species and trolling chores. The biggest difference is the Mini-Planer gets the job done with less size, weight and cost. Now that’s a good deal!
