Tom Neustrom A Great Guide When in Minnesota

I’ve known Tom for years and if you’re in Minnesota he is one of the best guides that money can buy!
On October 10th & 11th, Michael Mulqueen and David Vincent had the pleasure of fishing with Legendary Teacher and Fishing Guide, Tom Neustrom. Tom has been nominated to be a member of the Fresh Water Fishing Hall Of Fame. After spending two days on the water with Tom, it is easy to understand why. Tom took Mike and myself to Leech Lake in Minnesota on Friday. It can be very cold and windy in Minnesota that time of the year. Tom watches his students like a hawk. He does this to help them become better fishermen. We were using a method called Snap Jigging. Tom vigorously instructs his students on what they are doing wrong and how to improve their methods. We boated many walleyes and perch, and a few pike that day, but most of all, we left better fishermen.
On Saturday, we fished Cutfoot Lake in Minnesota. I think Tom considers variety to be the spice of life. We started out fishing for crappies. We were in a small bay and began to mark clouds of fish. Tom worked like a Surgeon to keep the boat hovering over the moving schools of fish. Within a short period of time, we had boated thirty wonderful fish. We then moved out to the main part of the lake. We were snap jigging for walleyes again. Tom’s boat control is outstanding. He knows the contours of the lake like the back of his hand. We hooked into a walleye every time we came over this one hump. Other boats tried to replicate what Tom was doing, but it was an effort in futility. We watched as they slowly gave up and moved to different areas. We boated more nice eyes and a few pike. A severe thunderstorm came up. Tom was conflicted between giving his clients a full day on the water or their safety. We told Tom that it was okay to go in, we would rather live to fish another day.
