Wisconsin River Fishing Report 3-26-08
gengberg March 26th, 2008
The Wisconsin River continues to open-up for fishing with the milder and sunny weather the last few days. I plan to start guiding and fishing this coming weekend or the beginning of next week. The BoatHouse of Madison is my boat sponsor again this year and I’ll be using the Mirrocraft Bucky Boat which is a great boat for all kinds of fishing. I’m still waiting for my new Lowrance electronics, but we should soon be ready. I know that fellow guides; Lee Tauchen, Tony Puccio, and Ron Barefield are also to go. I’m not sure how heavily booked they are for the next few weeks.
The Wisconsin River is open and being fished below the dams at Wisconsin Dells and Prairie du Sac. Today, March 26th there were 40 boats fishing below the Prairie Dam and most likely more at the Dells. I’ll check on Castle Rock, Petenwell, and Nekoosa as soon as I can.
The landing is open at Hooker’s Resort and hopefully the landings will be open at Tipperary Bluff soon. The water before the lake is wide-open, but the landings aren’t as of Sunday.
The water is still cold, 36 degrees, and despite the 50 degree temperature today, the forecast calls for snow and a high in the upper 30’s on Thursday, March 27th, 2008. Keep checking!
